Magnesium

Magnesium is a central component of the chlorophyll molecule and is critical for photosynthesis. It is involved in energy transfer, enzyme activation, and the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. Magnesium deficiency manifests as interveinal chlorosis in older leaves, with the veins remaining green. Common crops susceptible to magnesium deficiency include corn, tomatoes, and legumes. To correct deficiencies, magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) or other magnesium-containing fertilizers can be applied.
