Iron is crucial for the synthesis of chlorophyll, the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis in plants. It also participates in various enzymatic reactions involved in energy transfer and respiration. Iron deficiency is a common micronutrient disorder in crops and often leads to chlorosis, where the leaves turn yellow due to a lack of chlorophyll production. Plants may exhibit interveinal chlorosis in younger leaves while the veins remain green. Iron deficiency can be managed by applying iron chelate fertilizers or correcting soil pH, as iron availability is influenced by soil pH levels.
